Holton 70, Perry-Lecompton 23
• The Kaws trailed, 45-8, at the half and ended the season at 4-17. Senior Holly Fornelli led the Kaws with 10 points.
Boys
3A substate quarterfinals
Horton 60, Oskaloosa 56
• Oskaloosa led by 6 at halftime but got outscored, 34-24, in the second half to end the season at 11-11. Junior J.T. Thurston led the Bears with 20 points while junior Chase Tenpenny scored 16 and senior Boone Heston scored 10 points.
McLouth 63, JCN 49
• The Bulldogs avenged an earlier defeat by knocking off the Chargers thanks to outscoring JCN, 32-13, in the second and third quarters. Senior Mike Rome led McLouth with 21 while junior Derrick Crouse scored 14 points, senior Mark Stewart scored 13 and sophomore Cole Batman scored 10 as the Bulldogs moved to 7-14. North’s season ended at 11-10. North was led by 18 points each from seniors Chris Noll and Luke Noll.
Feb. 26 games
Girls
4A substate quarterfinals
Hayden 55, Jefferson West 32
• The Wildcats outscored West, 37-9, in the second and third quarters en route to ending the Tigers’ season at 13-8. Senior Marcia Beecham led West with 12 points.
3A substate quarterfinals
JCN 54, MHMA 37
• North outscored Mount Academy, 29-14, in the second half to move to 17-5. Sophomore Sara Navinskey scored 18 and sophomore Mallory GrandPre scored 15 points in the win.
Oskaloosa 59, Pleasant Ridge 58
• The Bears took a 9-point lead into the fourth quarter and held on to win and improve to 17-5. Junior Nicole Rockhold scored 20 points, freshman Hailey Kelly scored 18 and senior Emily Heston scored 14 in the win.
ACCHS 63, McLouth 51
• The Bulldogs’ season ended at 13-8.
2A substate quarterfinals
Valley Falls 41, Onaga 21
• The Dragons used a 21-6 third quarter advantage to improve to 11-10. Freshman Abbey Kearney scored 16 points and senior Rebekah Bunde scored 15 points in the win.
Boys
4A substate quarterfinals
Perry-Lecompton 64, Hiawatha 34
• The Kaws won their first postseason game in more than 10 years by drilling Hiawatha to improve to 19-2. Junior Kyle Morgison scored 16 points and junior Andy Bowman scored 15 points in the win.
Hayden 68, Jefferson West 33
• Hayden led, 45-26, at halftime in ending West’s season at 6-15. Senior Tom Shirley was the only Tiger in double figures as he scored 16 points in his final high school game.
2A substate quarterfinals
Onaga 64, Valley Falls 58
• The Dragons trailed by 13 entering the fourth quarter and couldn’t come back in finishing the season at 7-15. Junior Ray Cook scored 16 points, sophomore Riley Bunde scored 11 and sophomore Tyler Wynkoop scored 10 in the loss.

at Onaga
Valley Heights 68, Valley Falls 45
• The Dragons trailed, 11-5, after one quarter and weren’t able to catch up in ending the season at 11-11. Kearney led Valley Falls with 15 points in the loss.
Boys
3A substate semifinals
at Horton
KC Christian 52, McLouth 40
• The game was tied at halftime but the Panthers outscored McLouth, 30-18, in the second half to end the Bulldogs’ season at 7-15. Senior Mike Rome scored 18 points and senior Mark Stewart scored 10 points in the loss.

Girls
3A substate semifinals
at Horton
JCN 45, KC Christian 39
• The Chargers avenged a 20-point loss to the Panthers only a week prior to the game by building a 9-point halftime lead and holding on to move to 18-5 and into the substate championship. Junior Amelia Noll scored 15 points and Navinskey scored 13 points in the win for JCN.
ACCHS 49, Oskaloosa 32
• A dismal first half for the Bears gave ACCHS a 31-7 halftime lead as the Tigers ended Oskaloosa’s season at 17-6. Rockhold led the Bears with 14 points in the loss.
Boys
4A substate semifinals
at Holton
Holton 58, Perry-Lecompton 55
• Perry-Lecompton came back from a 9-point halftime deficit to make the game close at the end but a potential game-tying 3-pointer by senior Caleb Denton was wiped away by a timeout by coach Jeff Dickson. Denton’s ensuing try missed its mark and the Kaws ended the season at 19-3. Morgison scored 15 points and Denton scored 14 points in the loss.
March 1 games
Girls
3A substate championship
ACCHS 39, JCN 23
• The game was tied at 16 at the half but North scored only 7 points in the second half in ending the season at 18-6. GrandPre led the Chargers with 7 points.
