Girls
Bishop Ward 51, Perry-Lecompton 33
• Ward turned around a 1-point deficit entering the second quarter by outscoring the Kaws, 28-7, in the second and third quarters to cruise to the win and drop Perry-Lecompton to 1-8. Sophomore Ashleigh Allam scored 10 points to lead Perry-Lecompton.
Boys
Perry-Lecompton 62, Bishop Ward 58 (2 OT)
• The Kaws took a 5-point lead early but the Cyclones turned it into a 2-point lead of their own heading into the fourth quarter. The Kaws forced overtime and, in the second overtime, were able to pull away for the win to move to 4-5. Four Kaws were in double figures led by 17 points from sophomore Andy Bowman. The Kaws also got 11 points from senior Brian Hastert, 11 from sophomore Kyle Morgison and 10 from sophomore Joel Gantz.
Friday’s games (Jan. 12)
Girls
ACCHS 38, Jefferson West 29
• West dropped to 4-6 with the loss. Junior Marcia Beecham scored 15 points to lead the Tigers.
McLouth 59, Cair Paravel 40
• The Bulldogs built a 26-point lead entering the fourth quarter and coasted to the 19-point win to move to 3-5. Freshman Missy Rome scored 24 points and senior Rachael Thompson scored 15 in the win.
Valley Falls 45, JCN 34
• The teams played to an 11-11 tie at the half before Valley Falls cranked up the offense and pulled ahead to win by 11 and move to 3-7. JCN dropped to 3-6. Junior Rebekah Bunde scored 18 points and senior Katie Brevitz scored 16 for the Dragons. Freshman Mallory Grand Pre and sophomore Lisa Weishaar scored 10 points each to lead the Chargers.
Perry-Lecompton 51, Immaculata 47
• The Kaws took a 4-point lead into halftime and made it stand to move to 2-8. Senior Maggie McPherson scored 15 points to lead Perry-Lecompton while Allam and junior Holly Fornelli scored 10 points each.
Boys
JCN 54, Valley Falls 39
• The Chargers kept the Dragons winless as they took a 7-point halftime lead and made it double figures in the second half to move to 6-2. Valley Falls is 0-9. Senior Wes Weishaar scored 21 points to lead JCN. Junior Cameron Bickford led the Dragons with 15 points.
Perry-Lecompton 48, Immaculata 39
• The Kaws improved to 5-5 with the home win. Bowman scored 12 points and Morgison and Gantz added 10 points each for Perry-Lecompton.
Jefferson West 63, ACCHS 60
• West led by 11 at halftime and had to fight off ACCHS in the second half to move to 4-5. Junior Tom Shirley scored 34 points to account for more than half of the team’s points. Senior Brock Anderson added 10 points in the win.
Cair Paravel 63, McLouth 42
• McLouth was down by only 2 at the half but the Lions ran away with the game in the second half to drop the Bulldogs to 3-5. Senior Trevor Keling scored 14 points and junior Mike Rome scored 12 to lead the Bulldogs.

West to take part in 48th Tonganoxie Invite
The Jefferson West Tigers boys and girls varsity basketball teams will take part in the 48th annual Tonganoxie Invitational Tournament this coming week. The Tiger boys play the host Tonganoxie Chieftains at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round. Depending on their result, they would play the winner or loser of the Pleasant Ridge-Eudora game either Thursday or Friday.
The Tiger girls play Lansing in the opening round at 3 p.m. Monday. Depending on their result, they would play the winner or loser of the Eudora-Atchison game Thursday or Friday. Silver Lake and Immaculata are the other two teams in the tournament.

20th McLouth Invitational Tourney set for next week
Here are the first-round matchups for the McLouth Invitational Tournament for five of the six county boys' varsity basketball teams (Jefferson West's boys and girls are playing at Tonganoxie). The MIT is set to take place Jan. 16, 19 and 20.

The finals will begin Saturday, Jan. 20, with the seventh place game in the old gym at 4 p.m. and the fifth place game in the new gym at 4 p.m. The third place contest will start at 5:30 p.m. in the new gym with the championship game to follow at 7 p.m. All times, of course, are subject to alteration.

• The Bears led, 9-5, after one quarter and didn’t look back in moving to 4-3. The Dragons dropped to 2-7. Sophomore Nicole Rockhold and senior Lindsey Ottensmeier led Oskaloosa with 10 points each. Junior Rebekah Bunde led Valley Falls with 7 points.
Jefferson West 49, Maur Hill 30
• The Tigers ran to a 27-19 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half to move to 4-5. Sophomore Hayley Hypse scored 13 points and junior Nichelle Palmateer added 11 for West.
Troy 42, JCN 21
• The Chargers dropped to 3-5 with the loss at Troy. Freshman Mallory Grand Pre and sophomore Christina Kirby led JCN with 4 points each.
Wathena 48, McLouth 35
• A 14-3 advantage in the second quarter propelled Wathena to the win and helped drop McLouth to 2-5. Freshmen Kylie Shufflebarger and Missy Rome led the Bulldogs with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Tonganoxie 65, Perry-Lecompton 26
• The Kaws were down 9 after one quarter and didn’t get any closer in dropping to 1-7. Junior Katie Davis led Perry-Lecompton with 7 points.
Boys
JCN 48, Troy 45
• The Chargers got a nice road win as they came back from a 3-point halftime deficit to tie the game going into the fourth quarter and won by 3 to move to 5-2. Senior Wes Weishaar led JCN with 23 points and senior Drew Kraxner added 13 in the win.
Wathena 58, McLouth 48
• The Bulldogs dropped to 3-4 with the loss. Senior Lance Lamborn had 15 points while senior Trevor Keling scored 11 for McLouth.
Maur Hill 54, Jefferson West 26
• Maur Hill built a 7-point lead after one quarter and coasted from there to the 28-point win to drop West to 3-5. Junior Tom Shirley paced the Tigers with 13 points.

• The Kaws had only a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter but pounded the previously undefeated Chieftains in the fourth quarter to move to 3-5. Sophomores Kyle Morgison and Joel Gantz scored 20 points each while senior Brian Hastert scored 12 points to lead the Kaws.

• The Kaws faced a 10-point deficit after one quarter but cut it to 7 by halftime before watching Mill Valley pull away in the second half. The Kaws dropped to 2-4. Sophomore Kyle Morgison scored 13 points to lead Perry-Lecompton.

Sabetha 46, Jefferson West 28
• Sabetha inched away to some extent each quarter in dropping West to 3-5. Sophomore Hayley Hypse scored 8 points to lead the Tigers.
JCN 30, McLouth 26
• The teams were tied at halftime and JCN held a 1-point lead entering the fourth quarter before McLouth stormed back to take a 5-point lead with less than 5 minutes left. From there, the Chargers ended the game on a 13-4 run to take the 30-26 win and improve to 3-4. McLouth dropped to 2-4. Freshman Sara Navinskey came off the bench to lead JCN with 7 points while freshman Missy Rome led McLouth with 10 points.
Pleasant Ridge 28, Valley Falls 25
• The loss dropped Valley Falls to 2-6.

• A 9-point lead for the Bears entering the second quarter dwindled to 2 entering the fourth quarter but Oskaloosa came away with the win to move to 2-3. Junior Emily Heston led three Bears in double figures in scoring with 12 points followed by senior Carol Allen with 11 and sophomore Nicole Rockhold with 10.

• Basehor-Linwood didn’t allow more than 6 points in a quarter to the Kaws as Perry-Lecompton dropped to 1-6. Junior Jamie Fuller led the Kaws with 6 points.

• The score didn’t indicate the competitiveness of the game as JCN fought through foul trouble to seniors Wes Weishaar and Drew Kraxner to blow open a 4-point lead entering the fourth quarter. The Chargers are 4-2 while McLouth is 3-3. Weishaar led the Chargers with 20 and junior Mark Stewart led McLouth with 9 points.

• The Dragons fell behind after the first quarter and Ridge didn’t look back in winning by 19 to keep Valley Falls winless at 0-7. Four Dragons were in double figures led by sophomore Ray Cook with 13 points, sophomore Jake Massey with 12, senior Daniel Nottingham with 11 and junior Cameron Bickford with 10 points.
