The Doniphan County combined squad of Troy and Wathena came to McLouth Monday for a baseball doubleheader and came away with a sweep with 14-1 and 14-4 wins.
Game 1 was decided by the 10-run rule after 5 innings, 14-1, as McLouth junior starter Danny Crouse was roughed up for 14 runs (12 earned runs) on 15 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings pitched. Junior right fielder Vinny Gonzalez was the only Bulldog with more than 1 hit at the plate with a 2-for-3 game.
Game 2 was decided by the 10-run rule after 6 innings, 14-4, as, this time, Bulldogs senior pitcher Ryan Smith was nicked for 11 earned runs on 10 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings pitched. Smith was 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBI while senior center fielder Mark Stewart was 2-for-3 with a double in the loss.
