The Jefferson County North High School boys’ track team took the team title while the Charger girls were third to lead county squads in the McLouth Invitational April 9.
The JCN boys had 132 team points to take first, 13 points ahead of second-place Jackson Heights. Oskaloosa was fifth with 69 points and McLouth was eighth with 4 points. JCN athletes won eight events in the meet while Oskaloosa won one with Jake Hamm’s win in the 200-meter dash.
The North girls were third with 98.33 points, well behind the top two squads from Christ Prep and Jackson Heights. Oskaloosa was fifth with 48 points and McLouth was sixth with 38.33 points. Three North athletes won events in the meet while McLouth and Oskaloosa both had one individual champion.

JCN's Noll takes gold at state power lifting meet
Three of 10 boys from Jefferson County North earned top three places at the 3A state power lifting meet at Marion, March 31.
Abraham Noll led the way for the Chargers by winning three gold medals and earning the award for the best lifter in the lightweight divisions. Winning the gold in the 148-lb. class, Noll had a state best three lift total of 880-pounds. On the way to that total, he won the squat with a best lift of 410 pounds. He also won the clean at 260 pounds. His bench of 210 did not earn a top three placing, but helped him earn top lifter award.
Jeff Ferguson placed third in the 123-lb. class. He also took third place honors in the bench at 95 pounds and the clean at 130 pounds. With a personal best of 440 pounds Mike Miller placed third in the squat in the 198-lb. class. With a bench of 235 pounds and a clean of 225 pounds Mike Miller was also fifth in his weight class.
Six other Chargers also competed at the state meet; Ely Henry, Andy Swoyer, Johnny Schmidt, Lance Lackey, Pat Miller, and Greg Campbell.

Lady Chargers second at state powerlifting meet
By the slimmest of margins, the Jefferson County North girls’ power lifting team came in second at the 3A state power lifting meet in Marion, March 31. After winning the 2A state meet a year ago, the JCN girls scored 38 team points to place second behind Caney Valley, with 39 points in the 3A meet.
Two JCN girls, Millissia Tomlinson and Kayla Casey, won gold medals at the state meet. Tomlinson won the 165-lb. weight class with a three lift total of 510 pounds.
On her way to claiming 165-pound class Tomlinson earned a silver in the squat with a personal best of 285 pounds. That lift also gave Tomlinson the state record until Nicky Clapp of Caney Valley lifted 300 pounds on her final squat attempt. Tomlinson also placed third in the bench at 115 pounds. Her clean of 110 pounds was not enough for a top three placing.
Casey placed second in the 105-lb. class with a three lift total of 290 pounds. Casey won gold medals in both the bench press and the clean. Her best lift on the bench was 70 pounds and her winning clean was 80 pounds. Casey also earned a silver in the squat with a lift of 140 pounds.
Kelsey Schuler also placed second in her weight class at 123-lb. Her three lift total was 400 pounds. Schuler placed second in the squat at 210 pounds and third in the bench at 95 pounds. Her clean was also 95 pounds.
Haley Nevins earned third place honors in the 148-lb. class with a three lift total of 420 pounds. Nevins was third in the squat at 220 pounds and third in the clean at 115 pounds. She also benched 85 pounds.
Jackie Schrick came in fourth in the 165-lb. class with a total weight of 455 pounds. Schrick was third in the squat at 225 pounds and third in the clean at 120 pounds. Her bench was 110 pounds.
Heather Hobbs and Kristina Kramer each earned a team point by finishing sixth in their own weight class. Hobbs was sixth in the 114-lb. class with a three lift total of 310 pounds. Kramer’s sixth place finish came in the power class with a total of 410 pounds lifted.
Talsa Hutchinson and Megan Weishaar each won individual silver medals in the 132-lb. class. Hutchinson claimed her medal with a bench press of a 110 pounds. Weishaar earned her silver with a squat of 210 pounds.
Dannielle Weishaar, Heather Hobbs, Lisa Weishaar and Maggie Robohn all competed for the Lady Chargers, but did not win individual medals.
