Substate basketball update for Feb. 27 games

Tuesday’s games (Feb. 27)
Girls
4A substate quarterfinals
Hayden 55, Jefferson West 25
• Hayden ran to a 29-13 halftime lead en route to ending West’s season at 7-15. Junior Nichelle Palmateer scored 6 points to lead the Tigers.

Royal Valley 46, Perry-Lecompton 37
• The Kaws were down only 2 going into the fourth quarter but couldn’t pull off the upset in ending the season at 5-16. Sophomore Ashleigh Allam and junior Katie Davis scored 8 points each to lead Perry-Lecompton.

2A substate quarterfinals
St. Marys 56, Valley Falls 39
• The Dragons led by 6 after one quarter but got outscored, 34-14, in the second and third quarters on the way to a season-ending loss. Valley Falls finished at 6-16. Junior Rebekah Bunde scored 16 points and senior Katie Brevitz scored 10 to lead the Dragons.


Boys
3A substate quarterfinals
Pleasant Ridge 65, JCN 52
• Ridge led by 4 at halftime and pulled away in the second half to end JCN’s season at 12-9. Senior Wes Weishaar finished his high school career with a 16-point effort, as did fellow senior Daniel Finley.

McLouth 42, Horton 38
• McLouth came back from a 9-point deficit entering the second quarter to win with a 16-9 advantage in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs moved to 9-11 and moved on to face Maur Hill in the substate semifinals. Senior Lance Lamborn led the Bulldogs with 10 points.

Maur Hill 82, Oskaloosa 47
• A 34-8 first quarter advantage for Maur Hill put Oskaloosa on its way to the loss to end the Bears’ season at 3-18. Sophomore J.T. Thurston scored 12 points, junior Boone Heston scored 11 and junior Derek Brey scored 10 in the loss.
