Jan. 4 and Jan. 8 hoops update

Jan. 4 games

Girls

McLouth 63, JCN 50
• The Bulldogs came back from a 2-point halftime deficit to pull away for the win to move to 1-3. JCN fell to 4-1. Senior Abby Annis scored 24 points while sophomore Melissa Rome scored 20 for McLouth. JCN was led by 16 points from sophomore Mallory GrandPre and 10 points from junior Lisa Weishaar.

Oskaloosa 44, Troy 22
• The Bears took a 27-14 halftime lead and cruised with an 11-0 fourth quarter to move to 4-1. Senior Emily Heston scored 12 points while junior Nicole Rockhold added 10 in the win.

Nemaha Valley 47, Jefferson West 44
• West took a 6-point lead into the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold it as the Tigers dropped to 3-2. Senior Kyane Stortzum led West with 10 points in the loss.

Valley Falls 46, Pleasant Ridge 41
• The Dragons took a 6-point halftime lead and made it stand up to improve to 3-2. Senior Rebekah Bunde scored 14 points, freshman Abbey Kearney scored 12 and senior Chelsey Correll scored 10 in the win.

Basehor-Linwood 50, Perry-Lecompton 22
• The Kaws dropped to 1-5 as Basehor-Linwood took a 23-4 halftime lead and didn’t look back. Four players led the Kaws with 4 points each.


Boys

Perry-Lecompton 60, Basehor-Linwood 50
• Perry-Lecompton stayed perfect at 7-0 as the Kaws outscored Basehor-Linwood, 33-22, in the second half. Junior Shane Gimzo scored 20 points while junior Joel Gantz and senior Caleb Denton scored 15 points each in the win.

JCN 38, McLouth 28
• The Chargers pulled away in the fourth quarter to win by 10 and improve to 3-1. McLouth fell to 0-4. JCN was led by 12 points from senior Luke Noll and 10 points from senior Jared Brown. McLouth was led by 8 points each from seniors Mike Rome and Mark Stewart.

Oskaloosa 45, Troy 36
• Troy had a 6-point lead entering the fourth quarter but was outscored, 16-1, in the final period as the Bears moved to 3-2. Junior Chase Tenpenny led Oskaloosa with 18 points.

Pleasant Ridge 48, Valley Falls 30
• The Dragons dropped to 2-4 with the loss.

Nemaha Valley 70, Jefferson West 62
• Nemaha Valley pulled away in the fourth quarter to drop West to 1-4. Senior Tom Shirley scored 31 points in the loss for West.


Jan. 8 games

Girls

JCN 52, Troy 29
• North led, 14-7, after one quarter and pulled away more each quarter in moving to 5-1. Sophomore Mallory GrandPre scored 12 points and junior Lisa Weishaar scored 10 in the win.

Oskaloosa 53, Valley Falls 48
• The Bears trailed by 7 entering the fourth quarter but outscored the host Dragons, 20-8, in the final period to improve to 5-1. Valley Falls dropped to 3-3. Junior Nicole Rockhold scored 20 points for Oskaloosa while sophomore Audrey Trowbridge scored 11 points. Valley Falls was led by 17 points from senior Rebekah Bunde, 14 points from senior Chelsey Correll and 11 points from freshman Abbey Kearney.

Royal Valley 52, Jefferson West 33
• West was outscored, 27-13, in the second half in dropping to 3-3. Senior Marcia Beecham led West with 8 points in the loss.

McLouth 55, Wathena 50
• The Bulldogs won their second straight game to move to 2-3 as senior Abby Annis poured in 26 points in the victory. Sophomore Kylie Shufflebarger added 13 points for McLouth.

Tonganoxie 80, Perry-Lecompton 25
• Tonganoxie led, 49-14, at halftime en route to dropping the Kaws to 1-6. Sophomore forward Katie Volle scored 7 points to lead the Kaws.


Boys

Tonganoxie 48, Perry-Lecompton 44
• The Kaws suffered their first loss of the season to drop to 7-1.

Oskaloosa def. Valley Falls
• The Bears defeated the Dragons in Valley Falls to move to 4-2. Valley Falls dropped to 2-5.

Troy 47, JCN 43 (OT)
• JCN fought back from a 12-point deficit after the first quarter to force overtime only to see the Trojans pull out the victory to drop JCN to 3-2. Senior Luke Noll led JCN with 19 points.

Jefferson West 48, Royal Valley 43
• West came away with the win to move to 2-4. Senior Tom Shirley scored 21 points while senior Miles Wulfekoetter scored 12 in the win.

Wathena 73, McLouth 40
• The Bulldogs dropped to 0-5 with the loss. Sophomore Cole Batman led McLouth with 12 points while senior Mike Rome added 10.
