Six county high school wrestlers qualified over the weekend for Friday and Saturday’s state tournaments.
Perry-Lecompton freshman John Mehl will join Jefferson West’s Nathan Martin, a junior, Dylan Mumaw, a junior, and Steven Skaggs, a freshman, at the 4A state meet at the Bicentennial Center in Salina. Mehl will take a 28-11 record into the 103-lb. class; Martin will take a 20-14 record into the 112-lb. class; Mumaw will take a 29-4 record into the 125-lb. class; and Skaggs will take a 25-11 record into the 171-lb. class.
Oskaloosa will send two wrestlers to 3-2-1A state at Busch-Gross Coliseum in Hays. Senior David Williams will take a 30-6 record into the 125-lb. class there and junior Zach Beach will take a 30-8 record into the 145-lb. class. It will mark the third trip to state for Williams and the first for Beach.
