Girls
Wathena 38, Oskaloosa 29
• Wathena outscored the Bears, 27-15, in the second and third quarters en route to the 9-point win. The Bears dropped to 7-7. Senior Carol Allen led Oskaloosa with 14 points.
Pleasant Ridge 53, McLouth 21
• An 18-2 third quarter put the game away for Ridge as McLouth dropped to 6-9. Senior Rachael Thompson scored 7 points to lead the Bulldogs.
Royal Valley 52, Jefferson West 38
• West rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to close the gap to 5 to start the fourth quarter but couldn’t get the win in dropping to 6-11. Junior Marcia Beecham scored 8 points to lead West.
Bonner Springs 51, Perry-Lecompton 35
• Bonner established a 20-point halftime lead and held off the Kaws in the fourth quarter to win by 16. Sophomore Ashleigh Allam scored 11 points to lead the Kaws. The Kaws moved to 5-12.
Horton 59, Valley Falls 29
• Horton led by 9 after one quarter and didn’t look back in coasting to the 30-point win to drop the Dragons to 4-12. Junior Rebekah Bunde led Valley Falls with 11 points.
St. James Academy 55, JCN 44 (OT)
• Neither team had more than a 1-point lead at the end of any quarter until the Thunder pulled away in overtime to defeat North in Lenexa. Sophomore Lisa Weishaar scored 11 points to lead the Chargers.
Boys
Perry-Lecompton 60, Bonner Springs 48
• Perry-Lecompton held a 14-point halftime lead and hung on to move to 11-6. Sophomore Shane Gimzo scored 15 points while sophomore Joel Gantz added 12 and junior Caleb Denton scored 11 in the win.
St. James Academy 39, JCN 36
• North squandered an 11-point halftime lead to lose to the Thunder by 3 in Lenexa and drop to 8-7. Senior Wes Weishaar led the Chargers with 16 points.
McLouth 58, Pleasant Ridge 54
• The Rams cut a 7-point McLouth lead entering the second quarter to 1 entering the fourth quarter but the Bulldogs pulled out the win to move to 7-7. Junior Mark Stewart scored 22 points, senior Trevor Keling scored 16 and senior Andrew Booth scored 12 in the win for McLouth.
Jefferson West 41, Royal Valley 39
• West got the narrow win to move to 7-9. Junior Tom Shirley scored 11 points and junior Matt Edington added 10 to lead West.
Wathena 72, Oskaloosa 64
• Oskaloosa took a 1-point lead into halftime and had stretched it to 6 by the start of the fourth quarter before a 23-9 Wathena advantage in the fourth quarter turned the game around. Oskaloosa dropped to 2-12. Junior Brock McGinnis scored 26 points, sophomore J.T. Thurston scored 14 and junior Boone Heston scored 11 for Oskaloosa in the losing effort.
Horton 54, Valley Falls 52
• The Dragons took a 6-point lead into the fourth quarter while gunning for their first win of the season but it wasn’t to be as Horton came back to win by 2 and drop Valley Falls to 0-15. Senior Daniel Nottingham scored 16 points and sophomore Ray Cook scored 13 in the loss for Valley Falls.
