Feb. 9 hoops recaps

Friday’s games (Feb. 9)
Boys
Piper 55, Perry-Lecompton 46
• A 9-point swing in the second quarter helped Piper build a lead and the Pirates held off the Kaws in the fourth quarter to drop Perry-Lecompton to 11-7. Sophomore Joel Gantz scored 15 points and senior Brian Hastert scored 10 points in the loss for the Kaws.

JCN 58, Pleasant Ridge 48
• JCN built a 9-point halftime lead and made it stick to move to 9-7. Senior Wes Weishaar led the Chargers with 24 points and senior Drew Kraxner added 10 in the win.

Jefferson West 58, Nemaha Valley 50
• West held on to a 2-point lead entering the fourth quarter and pulled away to win and move to 8-9. West was led by 27 points from junior Tom Shirley and 10 points each from junior Miles Wulfekoetter and senior Brock Anderson.

Horton 65, McLouth 48
• McLouth took the loss to drop to 7-8. Junior Mike Rome scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs in the losing effort.

Maranatha 52, Oskaloosa 46
• Oskaloosa came back from an early deficit to take a 2-point lead into the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold off the Eagles in dropping to 2-13. Sophomore Chase Tenpenny scored 16 points while junior Brock McGinnis scored 14 in the loss.

Doniphan West 55, Valley Falls 37
• Valley Falls fell further behind each quarter in dropping to 0-16. Junior Cameron Bickford led the Dragons with 8 points.


Girls
Oskaloosa 46, Maranatha 33
• Oskaloosa led by 2 at halftime before blowing the game open in the fourth quarter to move to 8-7. Senior Lindsey Ottensmeier led the Bears with 15 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, while senior Carol Allen scored 10 points in the win.

Horton 41, McLouth 39
• Horton had an 8-point lead entering the fourth quarter and had to hold off the Bulldogs. McLouth moved to 6-10. Freshman Missy Rome scored 13 points and junior Abby Annis scored 10 in the loss.

Nemaha Valley 51, Jefferson West 39
• West trailed throughout the game in dropping to 6-12. Junior Nichelle Palmateer scored 15 points and junior Marcia Beecham scored 10 in the loss for West.

Piper 66, Perry-Lecompton 40
• Piper led throughout to drop Perry-Lecompton to 5-13. Junior Holly Fornelli scored 10 points to lead the Kaws.

Doniphan West 49, Valley Falls 31
• Valley Falls held a 4-point halftime lead but got outscored, 34-12, in the second half to drop to 4-13. Sophomore Tess Robinson led the Dragons with 8 points.

Pleasant Ridge 37, JCN 31
• The lead see-sawed between the teams until Ridge outscored North, 13-6, in the final period to drop the Chargers to 4-13. Freshman Mallory Grand Pre scored 10 points to lead JCN.
